Apple Watch Series 10: A Significant Upgrade with Bigger Size and Thinner Design
The Apple Watch Series 10, expected to launch this September, is poised to be a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, the Series 9. According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this new iteration will feature significant changes in size and design, setting it apart from previous models.
Bigger Screen Sizes
Kuo’s latest note reveals that the Series 10 will come in 45-millimeter and 49-millimeter sizes. This represents a considerable increase compared to the Series 9, which is available in 41-millimeter and 45-millimeter screen sizes. For context, the original Apple Watch, the Series 1, debuted with 38-millimeter and 42-millimeter sizes. This means the Series 10 will introduce the most significant size increase across all nine generations of the Apple Watch, excluding the 49-millimeter Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Thinner Design
In addition to larger sizes, the Series 10 will reportedly feature a “thinner design.” This aligns with recent insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who noted that Apple plans to make many of its future products significantly thinner. The sleek design will likely enhance both the aesthetic appeal and the wearability of the watch.
Apple Watch Ultra and New Color Options
Kuo also touched on the Apple Watch Ultra, indicating that its design will remain “roughly the same.” However, Apple might introduce new case color options, including a potential black or dark variant. This move could attract a broader range of consumers looking for more customization options.
Innovative Manufacturing with 3D Printing
A notable innovation with the Series 10 is Apple’s plan to incorporate parts manufactured using 3D printing technology. Kuo mentioned that China’s BLT would be the supplier for these components, starting in the second half of 2024. While the immediate benefits of this manufacturing method for customers remain unclear, it could lead to improved production efficiency and potentially lower costs in the long run.
The Apple Watch Series 10 promises to be a major leap forward with its larger screen sizes, thinner design, and innovative manufacturing techniques. As Apple continues to refine its smartwatch offerings, the Series 10 could set a new standard in the wearable tech industry, appealing to both new users and long-time Apple Watch enthusiasts.
